Backup Management

It is vital that you ensure a copy of your backed-up data is taken off-site each day, so that even if all your computers become unavailable, your systems can be recreated and restored. If you have a fire, those tapes sitting on top of the server are not going to be much use. Each backup job needs to be checked to make sure it ran correctly. It is also important to ensure that your backups can be restored by running test restores on a regular basis.

Tape Backup Management

Each business day, across the Internet, we check that your previous night’s backup completed successfully. Once a month, we perform a test restore to make sure backups are usable in the event they are needed. We take corrective action when necessary.
Restoring files from tape is very time-consuming. Often many physical tape changes are required to locate the appropriate backed-up version. A member of your staff may need to be made available for this task in the event restores are required and we are operating remotely. File restore requests are performed remotely, but can often take four to eight hours to achieve, and where requests exceed one per customer per month, they may be charged for at our on-site support rates. Disaster recovery restores, on a complete system basis, also incur a separate charge, at our on-site support rates, plus media.
We suggest you seriously consider Internet backup. It is more secure, much more reliable, much easier to restore, requires no staff actions to change tapes each day, take off-site or perform restores and generally has a total cost of ownership which is lower than tape.

Service level: During business hours, 75% of individual file restore requests processed within 1 business day of receipt; 90% within 2 business days.

Internet Backup Management

We recommend that you backup your business data to our secure Data Centre across the Internet. Using strong encryption, only the actual changes to your files are transmitted to our secure facility. Using this service, you can always be confident that even with the complete loss of your computers and servers, even with the complete loss of your buildings, it will be possible to recreate your current critical business information quickly, ensuring business continuity is protected
You don’t have to remember to take a copy of a tape or DVD home with you each night – our automated internet backup system takes it off-site for you.
